Bayern Munich sporting director Mathias Sammer has claimed they are not interested in signing coveted Colombian star Juan Cuadrado, but reports in Spain say Manchester United still face a big battle with Barcelona for his services.

Having already signed Luis Suarez, midfielder Ivan Rakitic and keepers Marc Andre Ter-Stegen and Claudio Bravo, the Catalans now plan to bolster the right flank with the versatile Cuadrado, as they see him as the perfect replacement for Dani Alves.

New Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has reportedly earmarked the Colombian as one of his main summer targets – especially as Angel Di Maria looks set to join Paris Saint Germain.

Barca were said to be in the pole position to secure his signature earlier in the summer, but following his impressive World Cup campaign reports in Spain said the Premier League giants and Bayern complicated the negotiations by joining the race.

Sport claims United have recently made a £27.7m offer to Fiorentina, while the Catalans are set to improve it by offering the same amount plus add-ons.

Nevertheless, Sport understands the Serie A Giants are expected to turn down both offers, as they want at least £31m.

Fiorentina, who only recently bought the complete ownership rights for the winger from Udinese for £20m, are keen to keep him in the squad, but recently co-owner Andrea Della Valle admitted that he would allow the talented player to leave if he decides to seek a new challenge - and any club meets their demands.

"Are we going to keep Cuadrado? I will do everything to achieve it; it is a difficult but not an impossible situation. But it also depends heavily on the willingness of the player," Vallea said.

"We will meet in early August when he returns from holiday and we'll see if we can convince him to stay. If it does not, we will take action, but he is a serious boy... I know that he is of interest to top clubs in Europe. But I will do everything possible to keep him in Florence: it is a complicated situation, but not impossible."
