Liverpool are reportedly set to complete the loan signing of striker Radamel Falcao from Ligue 1 club AS Monaco.

According to the Express, the Reds have gone ahead and submitted a bid in the region of £12m to try and secure the striker on a season-long loan deal.

Brendan Rodgers has been scouring the market for a top class striker all summer to fill the void left by the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona and is now willing to splash the cash to land the Colombian striker, who is unsettled in Monaco.

The Northern Irishman currently has just two strikers Daniel Sturridge and the 32-year-old Rickie Lambert in the books at Anfield. He has admitted that he is looking to add some quality and is willing to wait till the final week of the transfer window to get the player he wants.

The Liverpool hierarchy is said to have sanctioned the loan move for the striker, and it is reported that post the season-long loan deal, the Merseyside club will have the option of buying the former Atletico Madrid striker at a fixed price of £40m.

Apart from the Reds, it is believed that Manchester United and Juventus are also keen to take the striker on loan from the Ligue 1 club. However, Liverpool's quick action has left the two clubs stumped and they now look set to miss out on Falcao.

However, one stumbling block could be the wages. The Colombian is open to a pay cut to make a move, but that can be negotiated only when the move to Liverpool becomes permanent. Until then the Anfield club will have to cover his current wages which are an astronomical £230,000-a-week.

The Colombian international joined Monaco last summer for a reported £50m from Spanish side Atletico Madrid and helped the Principality club to a second place finish in Ligue 1.
