Sony Xperia U Receives CyanogenMod 9 ROM [Tutorial]

Sony Xperia U can now be updated to CyanogenMod 9 (CM9), thanks to the efforts of FreeXperia (FXP) Team. The Xperia U is expected to get the next version of CM, the CM10 as soon as the company rolls out the official Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update to the device.

This ROM is said to have few bugs in regard to video recorder, A2DP, FMRadio and more. The Xperia U users who wish to install this ROM on Xperia U can check this tutorial, but IBTimes UK will not be held responsible for any damage that might occur in your device.

Requirements:

  • Ensure the device is rooted and has ClockworkMod recovery installed
  • Make sure all the data is backedup
  • Ensure 60 percent battery charge
  • Uninstall any security or anti-virus app to avoid interruption during the installation
  • Enable USB debugging by navigating to Settings > Applications > Development. Check the USB Debugging checkbox

To install CM9 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM on Xperia U:

  • Download the latest version of the ROM
  • Copy the downloaded zip file to the device's internal memory
  • Boot the device into recovery mode (to do so, turn the device off and switch it on. Press the back button as soon as the red LED glows up)
  • From the recovery mode, perform a Nandroid backup in addition to wipe data
  • Go to Install Zip from SD Card > Choose Zip from SD Card and choose the zip file
  • Flash the zip file. Go back and choose Reboot System Now to reboot the device
  • Flash Google apps just as the above step

Congrats, CM9 ROM is now installed on the device
