Install Official Android 4.1.2 XXDMG1 Jelly Bean Update on Galaxy Note 2 N7100 [GUIDE]

Samsung has rolled out its latest iteration of Jelly Bean firmware, Android 4.1.2 XXDMG1, for Galaxy Note 2 N7100 in several countries. The latest official firmware brings bug-fixes and performance improvements over its previous release.

The firmware is now available for download as an Over-The-Air (OTA) update as well as via Samsung KIES. However, those who missed the official OTA update notification and those who cannot access the update over Samsung KIES for some reason can still download and install the same manually, using our step-by-step guide.

Pre-requisites

    • The XXDMG1 Jelly Bean firmware works with Galaxy Note 2 N7100 model only and will be incompatible with other models. Attempting to install this firmware on incompatible devices may inadvertently brick or damage the device. Verify the device model number by navigating to Settings > About Phone.
    • Enable USB debugging mode on the phone by navigating to Settings > Developer Options.
    • Backup your important data and settings on the phone via ClockworkMod (CWM) or TWRP recovery.
    • Ensure the phone is factory unlocked as well as its bootloader unlocked.
    • Make sure the phone has at least 80% battery charge to prevent unexpected device shutdown (due to battery drain) during firmware installation.

How to Update Galaxy Note 2 N7100 to Latest Android 4.1.2 XXDMG1 Jelly Bean Official Firmware

Step 1: Extract the Firmware zip file that you downloaded earlier via winrar or 7zip or winzip to get a .tar.md5 file and some other files.

Step 2: Extract Odin zip file to obtain Odin3 v3.07.exe along with few other files.

Step 3: Power off the phone and wait for the vibration (about 5-6 seconds) to confirm complete device shutdown.

Step 4: Boot the device into Download Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down, Home and Power buttons together until a construction Android robot icon appears with a warning triangle on screen. Now hit the Volume Up button to enter Download Mode.

Step 5: Launch Odin on computer as an Administrator, as admin privileges are required to complete the firmware installation smoothly.

Step 6: Connect the phone to computer via USB cable while the phone is still in Download Mode. Wait until Odin the device is detected in Odin. When the device connects successfully, its ID: COM box will turn blue with the corresponding COM port number. Besides, a message saying "Added!" appears on screen if the device is successfully connected.

Step 7: Choose the following files in Odin from extracted N7100XXDMG1 firmware folder via respective checkboxes:

    • Choose the PDA checkbox, and select the file named .tar or .md5.
    • Click the Phone checkbox, and select the file with 'modem' in its name (ignore if there is no such file)
    • Select the CSC checkbox, and choose the file named 'CSC' (ignore if such file is missing)
    • Click the PIT checkbox, and select the .pit file. Use only the file obtained while extracting in step 1, otherwise just ignore it.

Step 8: In Odin, enable Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes. Also, ensure the Re-Partition checkbox is chosen only if a .pit file was selected in the previous step.

Step 9: Double-check to see that Step 7 and Step 8 are done correctly. Then hit START button to begin the installation process.

Step 10: After the firmware installation completes, your phone will reboot and soon a PASS message with green background appears in the left-most box at the very top of Odin. You can now remove the USB cable to disconnect the device from computer.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 is now updated with official Android 4.1.2 XXDMG1 Jelly Bean firmware. Go to Settings > About Phone to verify the firmware installed.

Note: If the phone is stuck at booting animation or facing boot loop issues after Step 10, then go to recovery mode (press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together). Now perform Wipe data/Factory Reset and Wipe Cache Partition task before choosing reboot system now. In recovery mode, use Volume keys to navigate between options and Power key to select an option. Please note that performing wiping task will erase the device's internal memory and not external SD card data.
